Time Strategies

My "Frog" : Pixabay Time management has been a REALLY big goal of mine for this upcoming semester, a new year resolution of sorts. Last semester I, like many other college students, struggled with procrastination. I would consider myself a "good" procrastinator because regardless of my procrastination I -almost- always get what I need to do, done, but I put myself through unnecessary stress in the process. Looking back I realize that last semester could have been a lot easier, and it also could have taken up significantly less time, had I created a schedule other than the famous "day of due date".  The first article I read was The Psychology of Checklists . This article stuck out to me because I love checklists. I use checklists everyday because they make me feel productive, and it is the easiest way to not miss an assignment. This article helped me understand the reason behind why I enjoy my checklists so much and it also showed me that I have at least

Technology

Technology Keyboard: Libreshot I have taken quite a few online courses in the past and I have become quite familiar with my computer and it's technology tools, like word count and bookmarks. This online course environment is a little bit different than what I have experienced in the past, mostly because all the content is not "conveniently" posted on canvas. This semester I am excited to learn more about the tools that I will be able to use in the future when I won't have a canvas page to direct me anymore.

Assignments

Assignments: Pixabay The assignments of this class remind me of other online classes, but with a test. The reading assignments would be the same as any other class reading, the storytelling would be the equivalent of a discussion board post, blog comments would be like responding to others' discussions,  and the project would be comparable to a term paper or final.  The assignments I'm most intrigued by is the storytelling. I am really excited for the amount of freedom given for the storytelling assignments because it makes it less stressful to complete. I am also very excited by the extra credit options given each week because it gives me the sense of a safety net and lets me know that when life interferes with my school work it won't be "the end of the world".

Growth Mindset

Different Mindsets: Pixabay The growth mindset is a very intriguing subject to me. I had never heard about about Carol Dweck or the "growth or fixed mindsets" before today however, I had always been told by an old cheer coach of mine that are mindset determines what we can do. For example when someone would be too scared to try a new tumbling skill, she would say "What you think will happen, will, so do not go into it thinking you are going to fail or that is exactly what you will do." This differs slightly from the growth mindset but I see a connection between the two.  I personally would like to believe that I fall in the middle of a growth and fixed mindset, if that is at all possible.  All through school it was continuously drilled in my head that I must get good grades in order to show that I am capable and smart, so I did exactly that. However there were many instances that I had a growth mindset, for example, I decided to push myself by enrolling in college l

Introduction to Me!

Hello! My name is Brooklynn and I am currently a Freshman, sophomore, and junior at OU. Beginning the summer before my junior year of high school I began taking concurrent classes at Northern Oklahoma college, in order to get some of my basic courses out of the way. By the time my senior year rolled around I was on track to actually receive my associates degree 20 days before my high school diploma. In March of 2020 my plans, as well as everyone else's, took a turn. The dreaded COVID took away both of the days I had worked so hard for. Although both of my graduations were taken away from me, I still finished the year and received my degree in Biology Pre-Med, I then went on to attended OU. Being that this year was my first year of college out of high school, I began as a "freshman",  starting with 60 credit hours classifying me as a junior, and changing my major to Psychology Pre-Med now puts me as a sophomore. All very confusing, I know! I have always been the type of pe

Storybook Favorites

Spongebob Squarepants: Pixy   The Untold Stories of Spongebob : This was the first randomized storybook that popped up in my assignment and I knew from that first moment that this would be my very favorite out of all of them. The topic of this story book was a mixture between spongebob and his friends, and some mythology. Although I was not familiar with all the stories that this storybook was based off of I am very familiar with Spongebob, which made this storybook intriguing. I found the layout of this storybook to be very easy to navigate and was set up very well. One thing that stood out to me was the author's notes, these helped me better understand the connection between Spongebob's stories and the mythological stories.  Voldemort's Reincarnation : When first looking through the storybooks for Indian Epics I found that many of the titles and stories were very unfamiliar to me, so when I found this storybook I was very excited. As a kid I always loved reading books s

New Orlean's, My Favorite Place

When I was younger I cheered for a competitive, traveling, cheer team. One of the many places we traveled to was New Orleans, Louisiana. The time I didn't spend at the cheer competition, I spent walking down Bourbon Street and eating at cajun restaurants. To this day, New Orleans is still my favorite place and I can't wait to visit there again. Bourbon Street: Wikimedia Commons
