My Weekend as Microfiction

S'mores: Wikimedia

S'mores

The wind was blowing my hair into my freshly burnt marshmallow but I did not care. My worries slowly faded away after every bite of s'mores I took. The chocolate was melted just enough that it was dripping down my fingers and the two supporting graham crackers were crumbling into pieces from the pressure of my fingers. My hands had become sticky by the time I had grabbed my wire hanger for a second round. As I stuck my marshmallow on the end and placed it into the fire I thought to myself, "Man this life is good!"

Christmas in March

It was almost my turn to pick a present during my families "White Elephant" gift exchange. As I glanced around the room the smiles on everyone's faces were priceless. My step-father had gotten 2 "t-mobile" scarves and my older brother had gotten a roll of toilet paper. I had to choose wisely, to steal or not to steal. My grandmothers laughter was still filling the room as I reached over my Aunt next to me to steal her gift. It was then her turn to again make the decision to risk it all and unwrap a new gift or to steal a gift that looked fun!

Author's Note: I decided to write my stories about my weekend. Due to COVID and busy schedules one of my "Christmas" celebrations had been postponed till March. So rather than having a cozy in-door party we made it outside with many snacks, games, and a bon-fire (for s'mores of course!)

  1. Hello Brooklyn, I love both of these microfictions! Everyone’s family gatherings were obliterated last year due to COVID, and I’m so happy to hear that you are getting to be with family again as more and more people are getting vaccinated. I haven’t had a s’more in so long, and reading your microfiction makes me want one so badly now!

  2. Hi Brooklynn,
Both of your stories were well written. I liked the s'mores one a lot because of the feelings it gave me about live pre-Covid. I work at a summer camp and my job was to make a bonfire and s'more every Monday night so it really brought back some bitter sweet feeling. Overall, good job on your stories!

  4. Hey Brooklynn!

Sounds like you had a great weekend! Sitting around a fire with friends and family roasting marshmallows does sound like a great way to relax.

My family still hasn't caught up on our Christmas celebrations yet, we're looking at doing something over the summer when more people are able to travel. It's great you got the chance to do that now that many people have gotten vaccinated!

Introduction to Me!

Hello! My name is Brooklynn and I am currently a Freshman, sophomore, and junior at OU. Beginning the summer before my junior year of high school I began taking concurrent classes at Northern Oklahoma college, in order to get some of my basic courses out of the way. By the time my senior year rolled around I was on track to actually receive my associates degree 20 days before my high school diploma. In March of 2020 my plans, as well as everyone else's, took a turn. The dreaded COVID took away both of the days I had worked so hard for. Although both of my graduations were taken away from me, I still finished the year and received my degree in Biology Pre-Med, I then went on to attended OU. Being that this year was my first year of college out of high school, I began as a "freshman",  starting with 60 credit hours classifying me as a junior, and changing my major to Psychology Pre-Med now puts me as a sophomore. All very confusing, I know! I have always been the type of pe
