Microfiction Stories

Population Control:

The year is 2070. The world's population is 12 billion and continues to grow. The United States government was overthrown only a few years prior and all of their secrets have been released. A cure for cancer had been found in the year 2011 only to kept away, But that wasn't the only population control plan found during the revolution. The United States had been poisoning us for years, causing the human lifespan to be drastically shorter than it could. Once all of these measures were stopped the death rate dropped drastically and the human lifespan increased by what is estimated to be 50 years. But now we are running out of room.

The Sequel:

The scientist have estimated the world only has a few months left before it becomes completely unlivable. Fresh Water has become almost nonexistent and climate change has made growing crops impossible. China has found a way to send people to Mars. So now we must all fight to get on one of rockets out. The only problem is, They are only taking 100,000 people, and no relatives are allowed on board.

Author's Note: I decided to write up a "end of the world" story because I have always found them to be interesting yet also concerning. I tried to use theories that I have already been exposed to, like a hidden cure for cancer and climate change.  I wrote two stories that aligned with one another so I could use more of my ideas for the plot.

  1. Hi Brooklynn!
I really enjoy the routes of your stories. They are all super interesting and unique and it's definitely eye-grabbing and leaves me wondering once I am done reading. I find it scary to think about the government poisoning us to keep the population under control! Overall great job and keep up the good work!

  2. Hello Brooklynn,

The first thing I noticed was the aesthetic of your page. I loved the images you used and they really made me happy as well as stood out. This is good because it means you were able to attract attention to your page and make the reader curious and excited to read your story .I think the author’s note you provided was really beneficial and explained/broke down your storyline well. I I love that you made your page relatable to the audience because I was really excited to see political policies and potential manipulation/problems as a part of the story. I think you did a really good job

  3. Hey Brooklynn!
These microfictions are both really interesting. Taking theories (conspiracies or real) and exaggerating on them to create a story is interesting and I think you did a great job at it here. The Population Control story does a great job at creating a setting and The Sequel seems like it could be a cool Hunger Games-esque story on top of it.

  4. Hey Brooklynn! Conspiracy theories make a great source for microfiction (as well as science fiction, more broadly, but you know what I mean.) Using multiple short stories under a single theme is also a really great exercise, and I think you did it very well. I look forward to reading more.

Introduction to Me!

Hello! My name is Brooklynn and I am currently a Freshman, sophomore, and junior at OU. Beginning the summer before my junior year of high school I began taking concurrent classes at Northern Oklahoma college, in order to get some of my basic courses out of the way. By the time my senior year rolled around I was on track to actually receive my associates degree 20 days before my high school diploma. In March of 2020 my plans, as well as everyone else's, took a turn. The dreaded COVID took away both of the days I had worked so hard for. Although both of my graduations were taken away from me, I still finished the year and received my degree in Biology Pre-Med, I then went on to attended OU. Being that this year was my first year of college out of high school, I began as a "freshman",  starting with 60 credit hours classifying me as a junior, and changing my major to Psychology Pre-Med now puts me as a sophomore. All very confusing, I know! I have always been the type of pe
